Construction chemistry is the field that connects what the lab measures with what the building does over twenty years. It covers the materials between the structural elements — adhesives, sealants, waterproofing membranes, admixtures, repair mortars, surface treatments, fire seals — and the standards that govern them. Why this matters now India is in the middle of one of the largest construction expansions of the decade measured by tonnes of cement poured and square metres of envelope installed. The 282 plants brought under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme in April 2025 — of which 186 are cement facilities — make the chemistry of clinker substitution a survival question rather than a sustainability question. At the same time, residential thermal insulation, waterproofing performance and adhesive specifications remain regulated below the level of comparable European jurisdictions.
